Tim Donnelly - SoftVu
Today we had a visit from local businessman Tim Donnelly, founder of SoftVu. During the session we covered many topics including his experiences of starting his venture, the first few years, how things are now and his pest pieces of advice. Below are some of the takeaways.
- Make sure you have a plan, workflow or process of how you’ll sell your idea
- List out top 10 processes that company will use to grow or operate, use a visio diagram. Print them out, and put on wall so you see every day.
- Create performance reports, measurable way of checking business progress
- “Frustration is born out of loss of control” (Tim)
- Organization within the business, make sure meetings have agendas, minutes are taken and then distributed to those who did and did not attend.
- Keep focus on the task at hand within each group. Don’t bring up every new idea, keep each workforce and department focused what they are doing.
- Always remember to share and pass on knowledge to others.

Adobe, Apple working on iPhone Flash
Both Apple and Adobe are still in discussions, working hard to bring Flash to Apples mobile device… but there are still things to overcome.
Adobe have wanted to bring its Flash technology to the iPhone for sometime now but said there were problems with Apples SDK and licenses not be robust enough. Currently Flash runs in two versions, Flash for Desktop and Flash Lite for mobile. Apple have expressed the need for Adobe to create a third version which would run more effectively the innovative mobile device.

Android plans for “priced applications”
Android developers have apparently received an email from Google in which plans to roll out so-called “priced applications” on Android market in US and United Kingdom within a few weeks.
The email, published by Talkandroid and sent by Eric Chu of Google, also says that Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, France, Italy and Spain would be next as local payment systems are set up.
Android Market will also be released in a number of countries including Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic and the Netherlands in the first quarter of 2009 with other European countries following.
Google will also push Android in other Asian countries and Martin Drashkov, an Android Developer who received the email, believes that the launches will, like in the case of Apple, coincide with the release of Android phones (not necessarily from T-Mobile though).
That might be an issue since developers will have to cater for a heterogeneous crowd compared with Apple’s one-size-fits-all iPhone and cover both existing Android phones and future ones.
Android’s Market rise has been less than stellar primarily because of the lack of paid for applications but that should change as Google allows developers to charge for their code.
